Compost Crew Inc., based in Rockville, Maryland, reports significant growth in the District of Columbia-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) metropolitan region. The organics recycling company collected almost 13,000 tons of food scraps in 2024, an increase of roughly 30% over its 2023 total. Over 20,000 homes are receiving food scrap collection service. Its commercial business also grew in 2024, as more food waste generators were required to comply with the state of Maryland’s (MD) disposal ban. Compost Crew also opened up two more Compost Outposts® — its modular aerated static pile composting system — to support municipal composting programs with the City of Greenbelt (MD) and the City of Edmonston (MD), bringing the total number of Outposts in operation to six. Among other developments, Compost Crew entered into a new collection contract with organic grocer Sprouts Farmers Market and saw further expansion in its service contract with Prince William Public County (VA) Schools, adding six more schools to its composting program. Also in 2024, the company acquired Key City Compost, a food scrap collection and composting company based in Frederick (MD). The acquisition included several thousand residential and commercial customers, a composting site and an online storefront that sells compostable liners, tableware, cups and other sustainable products. Compost Crew has 70 full-time employees and operates a fleet of over 40 vehicles.
