Better Earth, a certified compostable foodservice packaging solutions company, launched its Compost Drop Off Database to assist households in finding local food scrap drop-off locations. The database is part of a larger initiative by the company to map out composting infrastructure, haulers, and drop-off locations in the United States. Better Earth identified over 500 drop-off sites that will improve access for households in the U.S. to compost their organic material. In addition to food scraps, 243 of drop-offs (almost 50%) accept molded fiber compostable packaging and 157 of those drop-offs accept all certified compostable packaging including bioplastics. In addition, the company states it has identified 319 composting facilities that accept residential food scraps across 43 states, and 265 food scrap haulers. “Identifying over 1,000 data points on our map shows the momentum that is building in the commercial composting industry,” says Blair Michal, Better Earth’s Circularity Coordinator. The company has scheduled a webinar on Sept. 5 to review key insights. The company’s database complements FindAComposter.com, a locator portal developed by BioCycle and managed by BPI that includes composting facilities and food scrap collection programs in the U.S. and Canada.
