The Food Recovery Network (FRN) is a national nonprofit that unites college students, food suppliers, farmers, and local businesses to recover surplus food from across the supply chain and donate it to local nonprofit organizations that feed people experiencing hunger. Founded by students in 2011, it is the largest student-led movement recovering surplus food, with over 8,000 college students and supply chain participants involved. Among FRN’s initiatives is food recovery at the Super Bowl, in partnership with Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, and with the Bullseye Event Group, which organizes the pregame Players Tailgate on site at the venue. “In 2025, we also serviced Guy Fieri’s Flavortown tailgate,” reports FRN. “Both tailgates and recovery at the game were sponsored by Hellman’s. In all, 12,348 pounds of food were rescued, creating 10,290 meals, along with preventing 76.95 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from hitting the atmosphere. Our hunger-fighting partner was the New Orleans Mission, Louisiana’s largest provider of continuous emergency shelter services, which serves over 38,000 meals every month.”
